At Judaism Your Way we support granting of the full rights and responsibilities of civil marriage to same-sex couples. In the meantime, we are delighted and honored when asked to officiate at the weddings and commitment ceremonies of same-sex couples.
The personalized, tradition-based ceremonies we offer are, with some appropriate word changes, basically the same as the wedding ceremony Jewish heterosexual couples enjoy.
A note about terminology: Some couples prefer to have a “commitment ceremony,” rather than a “wedding,” to emphasize that in most states, same-sex couples are not granted the same rights of marriage as heterosexual couples. Other couples prefer to have a “wedding ceremony,” to emphasize that the commitment made by gays and lesbians is equal to the commitment between heterosexuals. In either case, Rabbi Field will help you create a ceremony that is congruent with your values as a couple.
